Man tasered and then shot

Posted in law and order by ukliberty on January 13, 2009

Saw this on the Press Assocation feed a couple of nights ago, but very little info.

POLICE marksmen fired four shots at a Brighouse man in his home, it emerged last night.

Firearms officers had also hit 44-year-old Bartholomew “Baz” Buckley with a Taser before shooting him early yesterday.

Details of the dramatic minutes inside Mr Buckley’s house on the Whinney Hill Park estate were revealed last night by investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

They also revealed that a sword had been recovered from the house.

Mr Buckley, an unemployed father of three girls, is in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with wounds to his torso and arm.

He had emergency surgery yesterday afternoon as the inquiry into the shooting was stepped up. …

Huddersfield Daily Examiner

His condition is said to be stable and improving but he remains in the High Dependency Unit.

In other Taser news, an apparently suicidal 89 year old was stunned by Taser after threatening to cut his own throat.

Convention on Modern Liberty 28 February 2009
What do you have planned for Saturday, 28 February 2009?

A mix of people and organisations are convening across the UK to discuss the state of our civil liberties and what do do about them.  The ‘main’ one, in London:

The Convention will be a one day gathering of 1,000 people on Saturday 28 February 2009 at the Institute for Education in central London. It is being sponsored by Rowntrees, openDemocracy, Liberty and the Guardian.

And, importantly, seek common ground in the defence our liberties.
